The WS-Basic Profile is the first profile
to come out of the WS-I organization.
When people use the term "web services", often they are actually
referring to the contents of the WS-Basic Profile. It packages
the following specifications together:

It is assumed that the WS-Basic Profile will
be versioned as a whole, enabling configurations of the aforementioned
specifications to version independently and allow new pre-approved
profiles to be rolled out. The WS-Basic Profile currently exists
in the form of a specification
that ties other specifications together.
